The championship battle tightened Thursday night at Michigan International Speedway as Daniel Simmons made a last-lap pass on teammate Jamie Knopf to capture victory in the Doghouse Racing League Group 6 Cup Series.
After running near the front throughout the event, Simmons found himself chasing Knopf in the closing laps. As the white flag waved, Simmons made his move, slipping past his teammate in turn 3. Knopf crossed the line just behind Simmons in second place, while Jamie Horne completed the podium with a third-place finish.
The victory could not have come at a more important time. With only one race remaining in the season, Simmons has closed the gap in the championship standings and now trails Horne by just 24 points heading into the season finale.
With the title still up for grabs, all eyes now turn to the final race of the season, where the championship will be decided.
